Glamour Of The Gods (imperdível)

Glamour of the Gods is an exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery that celebrates Holywood portraiture from the industry's "Golden Age", the period 1920 to 1960 (acima, Clark Gable e Joan Crawford no filme Dancing Lady, de 1933, fotografados por George Hurrell).

From Greta Garbo and Cary Grant to Audrey Hepburn and James Dean, it is these portraits that transformed actors and actresses into international style icons (que homem na face da Terra não iria querer dormir com a Gilda - personagem do filme de 1946 - e acordar com a deslumbrante Rita Hayworth, "clicada" por Robert Coburn?).

In many cases these are the career-defining images of Holywood's greatest names and help to illustrate their enduring appeal (gente, depois de ver esta foto de 1934 do Gary Cooper, by Clarence Sinclair Bull, eu estou repensando se o George Clooney é realmente o homem mais lindo do mundo).

Featuring over 70 photographs, most of which are exquisite vintage prints displayed for the first time, the exhibition is drawn from the extraordinary archive of the John Kobal Foundation (Marilyn Monroe, assim não vale. Você é sexy até sentada no chão retocando a maquiagem, como mostra este flagra de Ernest Bachrach, em pleno ano de 1952).

Glamour of the Gods demonstrate photography's decisive role in creating and marketing the stars central to the Hollywood mystique (e aqui a minha foto preferida: Greta Garbo e John Gilbert no filme Flesh and The Devil, de 1926, by Bertram "Budd" Longworth. Eles tiveram um caso fora das telas e transmitiram esta paixão nos filmes que fizeram juntos. Que lindo isso).
